Farewell to a Fellow Misfit
Sadly, on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, we lost a member of the Misfits Family. Ernie Thomas, a beloved figure within the League, has passed away. He was a regular at Aces & Ales and Joe's Bar along with his wife of 38 years, Pam.
Ernie's smile and sense of humor were always a welcome addition to every game he played. He honored the game and always played it the right way, no matter what the stakes. Sharing his knowledge as an experienced dealer and player speaks to his willingness to unselfishly help others, and to the kind-hearted, gentle man he was, both on and off the felt.
I always looked forward to seeing the Thomas' walk through the door arm-in-arm each week. They are what all couples should strive to be. Loving and doting on each other every step of the way. Watching them occasionally face off on the felt was pure love, joy, and at times, a little cutthroat. I can remember numerous accounts of how Pam would always put the screws to Ernie, just challenging him to call, and Ernie knowing his wife so well, yet still so unsure, that he would tank for a bit just trying to figure out what the reality of the situation was. Sometimes he folded and sometimes he called, but either way, he was always a gentleman and a great example of what being a part of the Misfits Family is all about. He will be missed.
While we all take this time to mourn the loss of Ernie, let us also remember and hold up Pam in our thoughts and actions as she navigates her way through this trying time.
Rest in Peace, Ernie! We love you and will forever hold you in our hearts and minds.
