Misfits Poker League Unites for Annual Toys for Tots-Las Vegas Holiday Drive.

As poker players, friends, and neighbors in Southern Nevada, we know how powerful our community spirit can be. That’s why this holiday season the Misfits Family is excited to highlight a local tradition that goes far beyond the felt — the Las Vegas Toys for Tots campaign, supporting children and families throughout Las Vegas, Henderson, and Boulder City.
The strength of this campaign lies in community participation, and that includes YOU.
From November 23rd to December 6th the Misfits Family donated toys and money to help local families and children this holiday season. We kicked off our annual Toy Drive this year at the Misfits Fall Invitational Tournament. 49 players came together to donate over 50 toys and over $400 during this tournament. What a great start to a wonderful Misfits tradition.
Over the next 2 weeks at all the Misfit Poker locations we continued to collect toys and cash donations from all of our members. In the end, we collected a total of over 200 toys and $1700.
This donation will undoubtedly be a benefit to the Toys for Tots organization as they distribute toys to families with children in need.
I had to privilege of meeting and speaking with the coordinator of the local Toys for Tots-Las Vegas chapter, Marine Corps Reserve, Cpl. Alex Delgado Reyes. He works tirelessly to coordinate the volunteers so that toys are gathered and distributed on time. He also manages relationships with local stores and national wholesalers to provide the best opportunities for toy fulfillment.
Most of the wholesalers that he currently works with are from the east coast and they offer toys at significant bulk discounts. There are also many local stores that provide purchasing opportunities. This allows Cpl. Reyes to get the most bang for the donation buck and bring in quality toys for the children.
The donations from the Misfits Family will go a long way in providing toys purchased in bulk
from these suppliers and local chain stores like Walmart, Target, Ross, etc.
The Toys for Tots Effort Doesn’t End Here:
Like our Misfits Poker League toy drive, Toys for Tots is a volunteer-driven program. While many of the volunteers are Marine Corps Reservists, addtional volunteers are essential, and they are looking for folks to help.
Typical Volunteer Roles:
Collecting toy donations from drop-off sites
Sorting toys by age and category
Staffing toy drives or holiday events
Helping with community outreach and logistics
Volunteers are needed Monday-Friday 9am-5pm and Saturday-Sunday 9am-1pm from now until December 23.
